June music

story · music · places

My June pic has flowers that look like white balls when mature, each formed of many small flowers, and light green balls before, - the pic has several of both in contrast to dark background. If you read about St. Martin, Idstein, our church, you encounter three recent pics, on top of a concert that Franz Josef Hamm arranged for his 90th birthday (and invited everybody), a new one of our conductor giving us last uplift before the second concert of Forrest's Jubilate Deo, and at the bottom us taking standing ovations (but our conductor still at the keyboard at that time). The other conductor and the organist have an article. The music is quite breathtaking, and the organist (my choral conductor for decades) said we were better than what he had heard on the internet. No youtube upcoming, though, copyright, but I chose one for my story that day. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:01, 2 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Brich dem Hungrigen dein Brot, BWV 39, is my story today: listen! - I returned from a festivity with a great vocal ensemble (in concert and service) and a new song by the birthday child, premiered by the congregation, - see music! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:31, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yesterday was the former German Unity Day, installed when unity was just a dream. I had a story to match, and today, it's another one, with music by Bach and Mendelssohn to match, - a DYK hook 15 years ago, which seems like from a different world. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:58, 18 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Today is the centenary of King Roger, an opera by Karol Szymanowski who is pictured on the main page, - my story with the trailer of the performance I saw. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:32, 19 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Quick undeletion needed

This seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion, but could an admin undelete everything at Special:Undelete/SIG 550? It contains quite a significant chunk of page history that should be history-merged with SIG SG 550; feel free to do the history merge too if you like (or I can do that bit; it's a fairly straightforward one once the undeletion is done. Thanks! Graham87 (talk) 03:13, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Quick undeletion (2)

Another one that got lost in the shuffle at requests for undeletion: could someone undelete all the edits besides the final redirect edit at Post-viral fatigue syndromePost-viral fatigue syndrome? (Here's a direct link to the undeletion page). I didn't realise this last night my time when I submitted my request, but per the sizes in bytes of the deleted/undeleted revisions, there must've been a cut-and-paste move on that page so undeleting the edits would basically be doing a history merge. I found it while searching the list of articles created before their talk pages as part of this page for "syndrome", inspired by finding an old talk page relating to Ehlers–Danlos syndrome. Thanks! July music

story · music · places

Good listening in the story today - the image shows a bright flower close-up, with small rain drops -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:29, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: It's always good to come back to that cantata, particularly the first and last movements. I love the way it goes from sublime calm to despair to ecstacy. Fairly soon I'll get to play on a Yamaha C7X grand piano recently installed near where I live, which led to an interesting music puzzle I posed on the reference desk, which has now been solved. It's taken up a lot of time though on my end... Graham87 (talk) 14:16, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Showdown (sport) (Jul 2026)

Thank you for the updates to Showdown (sport) – I normally spell check the entire the article, and unsure why I did not yesterday afternoon although I did get distracted. I was trying to understand showdown from swish (now I have to photograph a swish table tomorrow), but the article had so many unsubstantiated statements. (Curious as to why all changes not done at once.) Thanks again,–Q8682 (talk) 02:50, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Q8682: No worries. I usually edit section-by-section, but I was starting to regret not just editing the article all at once after a few edits to that page ... Graham87 (talk) 06:15, 28 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

You would have loved yesterday's concert. The image shows tall flowers, a bit off-white and of healing powers. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:19, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: Oh yes, I love Voces8 and that program sounds amazing! I assume the English Suite was the 2nd bourrée from English Suite No. 2, per the Jazz Sebastian Bach article. Graham87 (talk) 14:50, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, and you'll be right about thee Suite, - it was one of a few pieces that were changed compared with the printed program and only announced in speaking, - also highly entertaining! Next time you come we have to "see" the church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:04, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I had three bios in the news section when the day began, and Jill Gomez is my favourite, - my story of course! Places are particularly bright today: for a Voces8 concert. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:48, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

September music

Antonino Fogliani conducted mostly Rossini, - a complete Barber from La Fenice, it comes with a trailer of 2 minutes to the overture, but then starts the music starts over from the beginning. - The image shows a field on a slope of mixed flowers, with a sunflower in the focus, visited by an insect. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:12, 5 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Geles Cabrera, a Mexican sculptor --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:45, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I have two topics in today's OTD corner - check out story and music, I decided for Verdi (the conductor who said "I love all of Verdi" and conducted by heart) over Bach because that cantata sits on sort of the wrong date ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:20, 22 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Maureen Jones: thank you for the creation! Not much is left from the original sourced. For today, I used the obit to back up the content present in it and the former ones. There would be more content to be added, and hopefully more sources to be found and used. I'll turn to her again tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:57, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: No worries; I added an archive for the original source. This is a bit awkward to search but Trove has digitised newspapers from Jones's early career; if I find anything interesting from this search (from that page onwards), I'll add it in. These old newspapers should be used judiciously of course. Another editor inspired me to do this sort of search at the Brenton Langbein article and doing it for Jones's page was on my long to-do list. Graham87 (talk) 14:09, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just my luck; that website went down after I wrote the above message. Graham87 (talk) 15:01, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
And of course it went back up again, so I was able to sort everything out in the end. I sometimes wonder if she deliberately kept a relatively low profile in Europe as a sort of escape from being a child prodigy ... a pianist's pianist, if you will. @Gerda Arendt:, thanks for the in the news candidacy. If you want a musical selection for your story page, might I suggest the absolutely sublime 3rd movement of Brahms's Horn Trio as performed by Jones (piano), Brenton Langbein (violin), and Barry Tuckwell (horn). I first got to know that piece and that movement in particular because Tuckwell chose it as one of his music selections for an interview with Margaret Throsby, that was played on the radio here after his death. As I recall he said he felt disloyal playing the piece with anyone besides Jones and Langbein. That's what inspired me to create an article about those two, along with hearing a recording of hers on the radio previously and these edits to the article List of women classical pianists, inspired by the passing of Joan Benson. Graham87 (talk) 09:25, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I just found this example of a late concert. I'll turn to the composer and then today's Bach cantata. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:39, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: Hmmm, interesting. Sounds like she was performing with local students (or former students) in the area. The 90th birthday concert sounds more notable (and she seemed to be very busy performing around that time per the Musica Viva ref, but still interesting. Graham87 (talk) 15:14, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I don't think we need the 2015 concert so much with the other things I found. Graham87 (talk) 16:23, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
We don't "need", but it sheds some light on her work. Anyway, I came to ask what you think of The Jones Trio? Was that perhaps a name for one concert, or an ensemble playing more often? I can't find much about the Japanese violinist, Takaya Urakawa, whom I added from the Fiesole obit, just that she played a Reger sonata with him. Perhaps worth mentioning? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:06, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: I'm guessing an occasional or one-off ensemble, but I don't know. Re the Reger: this appears to be the CD set they recorded with Apollon Musikoffizin; a lot of music but extremely obscure, and a year would be nice for context if that recording's worth adding. Some search results for the violinist are related to that record company. Graham87 (talk) 09:37, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Not to be confused with this box set. Graham87 (talk) 10:08, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes! - Bach composed a cantata for today's feast, performed 300 years ago. This time the main page has it on the right date. I nominated it for GA ;) - Also waiting for a review (as you know best): Maureen Jones, - someone said the article isn't good enough for the main page. We could change that! Already arrived there: Bryan Kelly and his fun Magnificat. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:37, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I was looking at the wiki page for science education in study hall, and I noticed a grammatical error. I decided to humor my slight temptation to correct it but the ip range my school uses had been blocked. I decided to look at the user who had done this action, and found you! None of that is very important to me, I just wanted to let you know I have a strong admiration for the passion that you hold and the resolve you possess. @Guythatlikeshorses2 and Organhaver: Yes, that's right re the bot per Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Administrator instructions (also see my edit there). It's always been the case that MFD discussions that have been closed early are left on the page until the bot archives them when the date comes around. Changes to this would need wide consensus at Wikipedia talk:Miscellany for deletion. I'm curious about why you're interested in this as a new editor; also see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard § Issue with redirecting an MfD. Graham87 (talk) 02:07, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
And I got reverted by the bot and had to revert it on the archived debates page, so there you go; I was wrong about that particular case ... but archiving isn't part of the human process there. Just ... let the bots do what they do best, in their own time. Graham87 (talk) 02:16, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Suspected sockpuppet of Matthew John Drummond

Hello Graham87, I have suspicion that LostMedia2005 is a sockpuppet of Matthew John Drummond, because the user is editing similar pages to Drummond like List of lost television broadcasts in the United Kingdom with similar Drummond edit summaries such as "adding content". However, I do not know how to appropriately report the suspected sockpuppet so a checkuser investigation can be done. If you could please tell me how to appropriately report it or report it yourself, that would be great. Thanks! MathMan4 (talk) 19:32, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@MathMan4: Thanks but I don't see it, because none of the additions they made that I checked have anything to do with Peter Sallis. If it was an MJD sock, all of them would. Also, "Added content" is a canned edit summary that is one of the presets on the mobile website, so it's not an indicator of sockpuppetry. Furthermore, when mentioning a potential sockpuppet like that, it's much better to use {{noping}} so they don't get a notification that you've mentioned them. Having said all that, to report a suspected sockpuppet, you can use the form at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations § How to open an investigation. Side note: when I first came across Matthew John Drummond and the surrounding edit histories, I thought your username was "MattMan4" because that's what it sounded like with my screen reader, which made me a bit suspicious until I realised that I'd heard it wrong! Graham87 (talk) 19:47, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your work on her bio! Would you have time for Barry Tuckwell, mentioned in my story? I gave it a start to look better, but see more interesting facts in the Sydney obit, no real lead, references with too little information ... - I have to take care of another who died, and have two major reviews waiting. I haven't checked if the refs are still working. The article says when the Trio was founded, and that would be good for the pianist as well, but I couldn't find a ref for that. - My October pic shows just leaves, of a shrub I haven't identified yet, seen last year in Milan: five leaves like a star on one stem, green and yellow, some all green, some all yellow, but most interesting those with a green structure on yellow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:28, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Gerda Arendt: No worries. I've done what I could on Tuckwell's page: mostly fixing references, but also adding some info, especially about his family. Graham87 (talk) 11:48, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I plan to translate the Maureen Jones article, - just waiting for their import. - My story is about a plea for peace premiered 90 years ago. It was already my story in 2023. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:00, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
the mezzo: I can't see source 8 for the Australian mezzo, - title role of Elektra seems so unlikely for a mezzo, being an extreme soprano role. Unless there's a super-sound reference, I'd trim that and leave both Dorabella and Meg as good-to-know when she performed these two vital roles from the mezzo repertory (with composers, of course). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:33, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: Oh wow, didn't know that. Opera knowledge is not my strong suit. Will log in to check the ref. I find it really hard to trim articles. This is regarding Caitlin Hulcup and its talk page, for anyone wondering. Graham87 (talk) 09:39, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: Done. Feel free to email me if you want any refs. I got that one through Newsbank at the National Library of Australia but I'm not sure how easy it is to access outside of the country. I just assumed that the title role would be the most important without checking if it made any sense ... Graham87 (talk) 10:18, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! - Exactly that's the most important role it's unlikely to be given to a beginner of a different voice type ;) - I think you can trim away some of the competitions, - sure, in the beginning every one seems important. You are also welcome to add more composers, if they come to you easily. I just don't want add them to facts that later get trimmed. Check the note of her in Vienna. This suggests that she sang a few small roles there, and not often (one of the five servants in Elektra ...). - Someone in opera died, but I took him today, - there's hope that I can look at her article tomorrow. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:44, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt: Done, at least a bit. I didn't know that Operabase let you do this sort of thing, which is helpful. I'll respond on the talk page then do some other work tonight. Graham87 (talk) 12:08, 6 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Apparently, the nicest enwiki people love editing our little wiki! In the last two months, I recruited Chaotic Enby and Skdb as explain xkcd admins after noticing their usernames in the recent changes log, and now I just saw you fix the description list markup of #1141!
